A Year in Review

As we move forward in this time of enduring, we bring with us those affected by genocides, past and present, around the globe...and in so doing, we grieve unconceivable losses to humanity and our mother-planet. Through art and poetry, my work mourns violence against humanity and strives to uncover new perceptions through the lens of culture, love, loss, grief and rage. Through artistic activism, I process deep emotion, dream my people free, and seek out new futures.

 2024 Overview

Published in print journals and magazines in seven countries and several international online magazines. Two print anthology inclusions (see Publications page) as well as a literary award and two nominations (see above).

Published work in 2024:
  • 15 Poems
  • 1 Queer Tatreez Visual Poem
  • 1 Visual Poetic Poem
  • 2 Flash Nonfiction Pieces
  • 1 Article
  • 2 Queer Tatreez Visual Art Pieces
I am my grandmothers’ dream, and she is mine. We exist together through Tatreez, Indigenous Palestinian textiles and embroidery. Together, we share cultural memory, ancestral wisdom, and visions of new futures. Thank you to the journals and magazines that have supported my work and my voice. I am deeply grateful to represent my family and homeland through art and poetry. I admire your courage and resolve in showcasing Indigenous Palestinian voices during this turbulent and violent time. It means so much to me to be included, beside so many talented creators, within the pages of your publications.

Winter 2024

"Our grandmothers' tears of Tatreez live on through us. Tatreez will always hold hope, tears and sumud...our cultural inheritance. Their gift to us for the enduring. We are more than fierce grief...we are ancestral indigeneities in human form dreamed into being by our ancestors. We are strength, poetry, art, magic and so much more. We were formed by dreams, sand and stardust but we are shaped by love. We can keep going through this time. We can and will endure." -- Micaela Kaibni Raen

Global Genocides
& Health Catastrophes

The multiple genocides and populations facing violence and starvation has been unbearable to witness and is our call to action. We must all find out place in the struggle for justice and human rights. We will mourn, more than ever before, shedding tears for Palestine, Lebanon, Congo, Sudan, Haiti, Syria, and so many more areas with people struggling to survive disease, starvation and violent attacks. Many are planning protests, performances, teach-ins, letter/email/phone campaigns, community outreach, and more. As we move forward, here is my prayer…

What's Coming in Autumn 2024

One Year of Genocide
& Health Catastrophes in Palestine

As activist-artists many of us are pushing ourselves to the limit advocating for justice. The longer the status quo remains, we will be involved in an increased number of "calls to action." One year of genocide has been unbearable to witness and the struggle for human rights continues.

Busy Autumn

By the end of 2024, I will have been published in several print and online magazines and two print anthologies. Publishers were located in North America, France, Germany, England, New Zealand and Australia. For content available, check out my publications page.

Exciting Announcement - Yalda Literary Award for Poetry

Poem “On the Night of Invasion”

Receives the Yalda Literary Award from Qafiyah Review

I appreciate the mission, vision and dedication of Celina Naheed and the Qafiyah Review. I am so grateful to be receiving the Yalda Literary Award for Poetry by the Qafiyah Review. It is my great honor to represent my family and my homeland through art and poetry. With violent cultural erasure, rampant discrimination, shadow-bans and the censorship of Palestinian voices, it is hard to know if work and actions will ever reach others. This recognition has given me inspiration to continue educating, speaking truth to power and taking actions to create a more peaceful world. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to Celina Naheed and her team at Qafiyah Review. They do so much to support and amplify the voices of Middle Eastern and North African authors and artists as well as their communities.

I am truly honored to be in issue #2 of Qafiyah Review alongside such talented and important creators.
